TESTIMONIAL
My on-ice development with Darryl Belfry has improved vastly over the past two summers. My first summer with Darryl opened my eyes to a new era of power skating and whole new look at skating techniques. He improved every part of my skating including my quick starts, backwards pivots, stop turns and many other techniques. This past summer he added many other skating techniques along with perfecting all of the ones I have learned from the summer before. His skating instruction help propel me to the NHL and this past summer all of his expertise and skating skills he taught me will help keep me at a high level of skating ability in the NHL. Without Darryl’s help I do not think I would be playing for the New York Rangers this year and for them the majority of last year. The on-ice training is very personal because there are only three skaters on the ice at a time and it really feels like one on one training. Darryl will take you aside if you are struggling with one of the skating drills and will instruct you on ways to improve and point out the areas within the drill you are having difficulty with (example: leaning too far back, using the wrong edge and so forth). Also, being a defensemen there were many on-ice sessions where he put me through drills that were specifically designed for defensemen. These days were great because we worked on all the little things that helped everything from shooting to my footwork in a penalty kill situation. All his techniques are very elite and are not only done using normal drills but with intense game specific situations. We will start by learning a new skill. Then once we have learned this skill we will do another drill that incorporates this skill into a game situation. Personally, I think the game specific drills really brought me to the next level. Another note is, all of these drills are done at full speed or “game” speed. Overall, Darryl’s on-ice skating instruction is the best decision I have made in my hockey career.
